replacement shocks--lousy ride
I should add a disclaimer: Took about 2 hours of work time, and at least another hour of "frustration time" with one bolt that refused to come out! The Expedition might take longer for a driveway job, as I had a whole lot of clearance under my truck -- I could just about sit "Indian style" in the rear and do the work quite confortably, without jacking the truck up!
I have Michelin M/S LTX tires on the stock Eddie Bauer crap wheels. You live fairly close to me, can you recomend a local shop to do suspension work on my Expedition? Where could I get a set of shocks like you have on your truck installed into mine?
Where do you live? I'd probably suggest Trick Trucks in Edgewater - they specialize in everything that involves trucks.
As far as the shocks go, I don't know who carries them around here. I ordered mine from Offroadwarehouse.com (I think that's the URL) for about $65/each.

Ughhhh.... I cringe every time I read something like this. Quite a few people heard from someone who fround out from somewhere that somebody had problems with their Edelbrock shocks. But I've only seen two (2) individuals who said that their shocks had a problem. Hmm... I wonder if Bilsteins & Ranchos occasionally have a defect here and there too... ya' think?
I have heard from several others who also run the Edelbrock shocks, without issues.
I personally have the Edelbrocks. I haven't had any issues, and hope that it continues this way. If not, I will take advantage of the lifetime warrantee.
My son-in-law installed the Reflexes on his '99 Expy. He likes them much better than the Sensatracs that he took off. I still have the factory shocks on my '03 but when the time comes to change it will be to the Reflexes. I have them on our '97 Explorer and they work great.

They're great but I have to warn you that we do alot of warranty returns on them for ride complaints. It seems that they get a bit sloppy after 10K-12K miles.
Then again, my customers are idiots and should be killed on site, so who knows?
Doesn't Monroe make Rancho (or vice versa)? if so, I would think that Monroes are a decent brand.
Hey Bro, may be the tire pressure you're running. The 2000 comes with I believe, 26 up front and 30 in the bck. Mine were filled to 34 all the way around after an oil change last month and wow, road like hell......
I just installed a set of Trailmaster SSV shocks on my exp. based on the recommendation of the local performance shop. Based on my previous experience with the better known shock manufacturers, I decided to try a different brand. These come with a lifetime warranty and were $50 each. I am very pleased with on road and off road performance so far. It will be interesting to see how they perform during the hot weather next summer in off road conditions and how long they last.
Installation of the shocks was not too difficult except the L rear shock next to the gas tank. I have an impact wrench which helped in removing and installing the shock. I estimate the L rear shock took as long to install as the other three shocks combined. For the front shocks I used a sawsall to cut the top stud. All in all it was probably a two hour job.
Well, I was probably one of the 2 you heard of having problems with the Edelbrock IAS shocks. My bronco uses six of them, 2 for each wheel up front in stock configuration. Within 6 months, I ended up having to replace 3 of the shocks under warranty due to leaking and binding up. a 50% fail rate with 6 shocks! I could see 1 going bad and needing to replace it, but not 3.
To only make things worse, the warranty program is a real pain in the rear to get new shocks under. After spending a fortune for these shocks (80*6=$480), I had to fork out another $35 in shipping to get their defective product replaced. Edelbrock was not very helpful at all.
I will admit, the shocks offer a very nice ride when they work. It's now been just over a year, and I may have another shock gone bad.
It's been a very bad experience with this new advanced technology, and I know several Jeep guys with the same problems. I will be moving on to Bilsteins or Ranchos in the future.
Sorry to hear that! Do you think the other one that's now going is one of the replacements or one of the originals? In other words, do you think they may have solved the problem?

I tried different websites, I only found rear ones for LLS.
I have a 97 with LLS, which I think uses the same shocks as a 98. I have been searching for quite awhile and basically the only aftermarket shocks readily available are for the rear. Basically you are stuck with Ford OEM air shocks for the front. I did find a place that sold front LLS air shocks made by Monroe, but they were $180 each!!!! Way more than the dealer wants.
