HELP - 2005+ MY front 4wd axle shaft spline diameter?
If I am looking at the dimensions right - the spline is 1.5" in diameter with 35 splines. I just want to triple check... I am making tool OTC6697 and looking at how it is used I was thinking that the inner shoulder (where it goes from 2" ID to 1.75" ID) was to bottom out on the end of the axle shaft. That can't be the case, though, because the spline being 1.5" OD will fit well inside the 1.75" ID of the inner portion of the tool...
So the next question is what stops the tool when pressing the seal on the end of the axle shaft before the axle shaft is inserted in to the axle housing/knuckle assembly? The outer flange of the tool stops the seal at the correct depth inside the knuckle but as far as I can figure up there is nothing to stop the tool against the axle shaft when seating the seal prior to the axle shaft/seal combo going in to the axle housing/knuckle...
