duraspark module

I have had several failures of the duraspark module on my '78 F250 with the 460 engine. I bought the truck about 3 years ago, and the module that was in it failed about 6 months later. It was a replacement, not the original. I replaced it with a module from NAPA (an Echlin, I think), and it failed after about 6 months. I replaced that one with a unit from Kragen, and it failed an about 6 months. The current module is a warranty replacement from Kragen, and it has been fine so far. I have a Pertronics Flamethrower coil on the truck and was wondering if this could cause the problem, or are these modules prone to failure? Thanks in advance for your opinions !

duraspark module

I have good luck with the duraspark module. I have heard rumors the original Ford/motorcraft ones last longer, but have no first hand experience to prove it.

In my experience the Motorcraft modules are much better than the aftermarket units. They are so good that the last few I have "purchased" have come from the junkyard. I find them and bring them to the parts store for testing. So far they have all been good. I know the parts store tester works well also.

When you install a module put 1/4" high spacers under the mounting points to allow cooling air to flow under it.
