I just purchased my 2016 Ford 150 XLT Sport. I noticed that the auto start stop is not working. It says that a trailer is attached in the instrument cluster under the fuel menu. I looked at all the ways folks disable this feature online and it doesn't appear that any of this was done to my truck. Any advice before I take it back to the dealership?
I don’t know if I’d want it to work. The starters are usually 3 times as much as a normal starter and the fuel savings isn’t probably that much. Is there a 7 to 4 adapter plugged in
I would bet that Ford discontinues the Auto-Start/Stop option in the near future.
And within the next couple of years virtually every new car will have it. Fortunately we have Forscan. I don't think there's a Chevyscan or a Ramscan or a BMWscan though.
- On my 2018 you can disable start/stop in the normal menus, no forscan needed.
- I checked Rock Auto a while ago and the starters are slightly more expensive, but only about 10% IIRC.
- I doubt it will be discontinued as it has a beneficial effect on the calculated fleet mileage.
- No idea how much if any they save, it's obviously going to depend on how long you're stopping for. I do wish they had a button on the steering wheel to disable it when you know the stop is going to just be a few seconds. You can control this somewhat by how hard you press the brake, but that's not very consistent in my experience.
- The general improvements I've read are 3%-10%, but of course, YMMV.

That is not possible. There is NO menu item to permanently disable Auto Start/Stop on the 2018 F150 model year. You can temporarily disable it via the switch on the Dash board effective only for the current run cycle.

You are correct - thanks! I know I had seen a menu item for "Auto StartStop" - but hadn't actually tried it - it apparently does nothing! Brilliant, Ford! The menu item appears to just be a status indicator. I did see somewhere that you can hack it to the off state, one way is to keep a trailer light tester in the 7-pin, that makes the truck think its got a trailer connected so it disables the start/stop. Not sure if that has other side effects that might be detrimental. There is also the technique of holding the dash switch closed by jamming a toothpick in the space between the switch and the bezel.

Actually, it DOES do something. Ford just chose an unfortunate name for it. When turned on, it will shut down the engine after 30 minutes of idling. The only use it appears to have is to protect you from yourself if you're so oblivious that you park and walk away form a running engine.
