Question Speedo problem

Can anyone shed some light on this?
The speedo and odometer(electric) on my '92 F150 will occasionally go out for an uncertain amount of time then just come back on. It doesn't happen often but at least a couple times a month. I was originally told to change the speedo sensor but I dont know where the heck it is. I know the abs sensor is on the rear differential and thought the speedo sensor was on the tranny but I cant find it. The part I bought, that was listed for my truck, looks like this part.
Thanks for any tips.

92-later uses the abs sensor as speed sensor also. I think the part you bought is speed sensor for cruise control on 87-91 trucks.

Yes, that looks like the cruise control sensor on my '91.

Thanks. That clears that up.
I'll try disconnecting the sensor on the rear diff and see if I get the same symptoms(speedo and odo not working)

Speedo problem

I have read several posts here about speedometer problems with the vss and psom. Do these problems relate to my 1991 truck or did they start with the 1992 also?

I am thinking I should grab a speedometer head if I see a deal on one.

Electronic speedometer started in 92. 91-earlier use cable driven by gears in back of trans/transfercase.

Good, then I am assuming that the speedometer on the 1991 doesn't relay information to the PCM Powertrain Control Module.
