I am needing suggestions on a new 2 1/2" adjustable ball hitch. My old 2" hitch was custom built for my truck. I am looking to just buy one and not go the custom built route this time. I am looking at the weigh safe 180 and tne GenY adjustables. I need at least 2k tongue weight and 14k or better gtw. Any other suggestion from real world experience would be appreciated.

Reason: Didn't add hitch size
There are many posts covering this topic already. Given your info, do you have the 3" receiver or 2 1/2" as the 3-inch will yield maximum towing potential.
I am running an Anderson No-Sway hitch and so far I am enjoying it. Set-up is easy and less time consuming than my previous round bar WDH. Used it for a week (towing daily) with no issues and it works as advertised. Also, for those whom back-up with the round bars or trunions, they're noisy and make noise whereas the Anderson No-Sway was silent. Good luck on your quest and please go back and read some of the information/posts in the towing section- very useful to someone like you looking to purchase.
The knurled end on the pins help grasp them when making adjustments.
I bought this at my local custom truck shop.
Could've saved a few bucks on line. But I'd rather support my local shops. I despise what Amacon and walmartains have done to our local mom and pop shop economies.
Yeah I know but I still hate globalism.
I'd been wanting a Weigh Safe for some time. Bought a new tilt bed trailer last year and the dealer had them, so I finally grabbed one. I don't remember exactly but it was in the $300-325 range.
I needed a short extension so that I could open the tailgate when hauling my business trailer. I bought an 8 inch x 2.5 inch unit and did away with the adapter sleeve. Drilled another pin hole in it to get it exactly where I needed it without too much hanging out the back and causing extra tongue weight.

I got the Weigh Safe 2.5" shank and 8" drop. It has a 14,500 lb tow rating and 2,200 lb tongue rating. Nicely made and I like the built in tongue load scale.
I went back and forth about either the 6" or 8" drop. I have a stock F-250 (no lift). Decided to go with the 8" drop because sometimes I rent a small trailer and wanted the lower option to keep the trailer level.
Cost was $300 with two interchangeable ***** (2 5/16" and 2". I don't really like the dual ball mounts like the B&W. Otherwise the B&W looks nice. The Weigh Safe is easy to swap *****, so I went with it.
If you get the B&W - lube those pins.. I used to have to carry a drift and hammer with me to back the pins out. Found that between a light rust, and the dirt that builds up, I never had to worry about them falling out while going down the road..

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said !!!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I really like my weigh safe !!!!!
another vote for the weigh safe, especially if you plan on that much tongue weight. it helps a whole lot to verify that you're loading it like you think you're loading it. I love mine, no issues so far on two trucks.
I have the Weigh Safe and love it. I splurged with the hitch lock and ball lock that use the same key. It is a quality, solidly built product. Some states have laws about driving around with a hitch ball sticking out - I just attach the ball backwards and leave it there and reverse it when I need it. B&W make quality stuff as well - couldn't go wrong with either weigh safe for B&W IMO.
I went with the Gen-Y. I like the multiple receiver idea as I use ti differently than other people do with cargo racks or maybe a bike rack behind my slide-in camper. the height adjustment with these accessories is handy to me. I just went with the 2" 16K model as I didn't need the tongue weight and my 'accessories' are all 2" so didn't want to have to use adapters with all of them. If I was only towing I would have went with the one that matches my truck reciever (3" in my case)
