i have a problem with my truck it stumbles and backfire when you get on it. It idles fine and runs fine up to 55 before the it acts up. You can't pass anyone without it sputtering and it backfires at full throttle. I'm running timing at 10 btdc and tryed 6btdc no results. I have a new edel 1406. I am disappointed in the edelbrock. I heard that the vaccum advance could be broke, the ignition box could be weak, the coil wire could be weak and the coil could weak. I am going to get it checked out tommorrow and if i can't get it figured out i'm taking the carb back. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Backfiring is a lean condition (if back thru carb, not tailpipe). Seems maybe there is something blocking one of the venturi's or the fuel to it.
I would pull the top off and check to be sure all is right. Maybe something is stuck(even though it is new).
If these carbs are identical to old carter's then you can remove the metering rods before taking top off. Make sure the rods are free and moving also. Then take off top and make sure there is nothing floating around inside.
As you open the throttle and NO gas makes it to venturi, it will backfire and miss hard.
The coil is not someting that could not be left out either, but seems that if you just put carb on then it is what I would look at first. Did you also just install the intake or was it already a 4bbl?
