I have a 2002 Ford E150 van with the smallest V8 (281 cubic inches?). A problem started awhile back and has grown progressively worse. I have also had this problem on a:
1. 1995 Ford F150 with the 5.8 litre motor.
2. 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the straight "6" motor.
3. 1993 Buick LeSabre with a 6 cylinder motor.
When I have the A/C on and am driving normally down the road the cold air comes out the front facing dash vents as it is supposed to. When I accelerate from a stop sign, stoplight, or getting on the interstate, the cold a/c air stops coming out the dash vents and instead comes out the floor vents and windshield vents. After reaching cruising speed, the a/c cycles itself, and again starts coming out the dash vents. Any idea why this is happening and what I can do about it? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Yes you have a vacuum problem. Top culprits include a cracked/broken vacuum line in the HVAC system, a bad check valve in the system, or a badly leaking vacuum resovoir.
engine vacuum is usually at its highest during deceleration. At idle, engine vacuum is also good. Depending on how hard your accelerating, youll have either minimal or no vacuum. A reservoir would save vacuum during these times.
