I have a 1991 ford F150 with a 302 C6 auto. I recently installed a new motor. Ever since after about 30 miles of driving the overflow tank starts to fill. If I shut her down after a while I can see air bubbles go into the tank. The system builds good pressure but it fills the tank up. Sometimes the gauge will go half way up then it will go back down.
I installed a new radiator water pump, and stat when I did the swap. Any ideas where this extra pressure/air is coming from
Are you losing any coolant ? If not , Id say you just have a lot of air still trapped in the cooling system , as the engine cools air is eventually expelled thru the recovery tank . Its a slow process for the air to be expelled this way . You should notice slightly lower levels in the recovery tank when the engine is cold .
The only time I lose fluid is when the over flowtank overflows. My plugs all look good, oil is clean and after a short trip (30 miles) I don't see any fluid dripping on the ground, nor the next day.
I will keep driving it and checking the level. Hopefully this problem goes away. I have about 250 miles on it right now and it is still there.
