An '89 F-150 300ci stick 4x4. No start/ no code period.

engine codes> no, nada,zip
new battery>yes
new fuel filter>yes
The steering column gets replaced tomorrow due to a broken actuator rod guide [dang potmetal]. Would get to the run position but would bow the rod when it hit the springloaded start position.
but no code...period.
any ideas why?
