Yes i,m friskyjake . I have the kc38r turbo on my engine, & tuning that to be clean on pulling up a hill or putting the pedal to the metal [carpet] has been a real problem. I,ve had Jody from DP Tuner live tune it twice. No success. I,ve have now got a hydra chip. Tried another tuner that live very close to me His tunes also smoke. He does not like drop in turbos. He says they do not spool up fast enough to stop the smoking. I now just got 1023 tunes [3] from Dusty. Med, tow heavy tow & daily econ. The Med &the Heavy are almost clean The daily is very smokey. I ,v e left 2 messages with Dusty for more help . Hoping he gets back to me for a correction. The weird thing thing I have a old [my 1st tune] from Tony Wildman in Texas. It,s a Tp chip & the daily Thanks for reading drive-ability econ tune is beautiful .Clean all the way to 32 lbs of boost.. Yes I,m heavy with the truck & camper 11.300 lbs loaded . I have E fuel T500 hpop 160 Ac injectors 3 inch D/Pipe 4 inch exhaust ect I ordered this truck new. 1995 srw 4x4 xlt f350 2dr. Thanks for reading.

well, assuming you have and intercooler, We pretty much have the same mods. I guess I didn't really realize that the goal with these trucks was to get them to not have tons of black smoke. I mean, of course I didn't expect it should be blowing out black smoke all the time. But I figured that was just the nature of the Beast with the higher horsepower Tunes. I'm slightly dissuaded from the KC drop in Turbo but not entirely. I don't seem to have the bad smoking problems you do. I guess I'll have to see how my d66 performs with the new wheel. If it's putting out 35 PSI and spooling up around 1750 I would see no reason to upgrade to anything else.

A question about black smoke... Is the claim that "with a T4 Turbo I can have an 85 Plus horsepower tune and see essentially no black smoke even at 3/4 or Full Throttle and pulling hard?"

I tried and tried for years to get the perfect tune. Finally Gearhead delivered. The first half of the throttle is just right for town driving. The second half, middle to floor, is perfect for towing. The power comes on and the shift points go up as needed for towing heavy. Smoke? Just keep your foot out of it until you have the rpm's to burn off the extra fuel.

Hello Yes I know about holding back on the pedal till the rpm are up but it still smokes in the daily econ, & not very much in the the other 2 [med tow & heavy tow] I know with Tony Wildmans econ tune [tp chip] there is no smoke & i can get 32 lbs of boost. maybe I should try him for a few tunes on my hydra chip but he is so hard to get him on the phone. His web site does not show him tuning a KC38R turbo but thank you for your in site. friskyjake

Lol, tuning is like politics and religion and oils.
50 tuners,50 users and 1million opinions ,observations and experiences. In the end it's whomever you can actually get to help and will listen to the observations and do something. No remote tunes are going to be perfect the first time, maybe second ,third, fourth, fifth.

My guy is an enthusiast that will listen to me. If my junk we're driving I believe we would have it lined out. Heck I have revisions waiting to be loaded still.

I am curious to see if that kc turbo ever really lives up to the hype and is any better than a d66.

My point is...umm, yea I forgot..must not have been important.

On a side note. Does the 96 send boost figures to the PCM or some sensor I can tap into? I'm thinking of giving the OBD2 Bluetooth interface because I don't like the way my Edge Evolution works with my Hydra chip. Was curious if any of those apps for the torque app has a boost feature. I would assume it has to in order to mix the fuel properly. And and my year of truck doesn't need the Boost fooler either right?

Yes, torque app can monitor map sensor voltage
boost therefore can be read .

Boost fooler, no they will not defuel like a SD.
I however do run one. I do not personally believe it is good for the somewhat expensive very important map sensor to be crammed with in my case 50 psi. I don't believe it will last over the long haul 30psi over what it was intended to be exposed to.

That's your decision
