Tail end

Thanks to Dave (df85732) I have figured out that I am missing a part of my frame. The part I am missing is pictured below. It extends 8 1/2 inches from the end and is part of the spare tire carrier. It looks to fit inside the end of the frame as an extension.

Does anyone know what this is called?
Where I can find one?
Have a technical drawing so I can get a reproduction?

It's shown in the Ford Chassis Parts Catalog as Extension, Frame Side Member, p/n TCAA 5023-A. Used on 53-55 (which is as far as my catalog goes, it may service other years) F-350, 16 5/16" long. I don't know why, exactly, the F350 would need it and other pickups don't, unless it's an extension for a flatbed application or the extra long 9' pickup bed. If you're using a regular 8' pickup box, you may not need it.

Hmmm, learn something new here all the time. I have the Ford Body Builders’ Layout Books for 1953, 1957, and 1966 that show frame details and specs. They all show pictures of this piece, as do the chassis catalogs, but no better description than Wayne posted. The TCAA 5023-A number changed to B7Y 5023-A then to C3TZ 5023-A. I ran a Parts Voice search on all three numbers with none found. Stu

Yes, I learned something too. A piece of channel iron could easily be made to work as an extension to make any bed fitment easier.

My O-S-I says that both TCAA-5023-A & B7Y-5023-A were obsoleted with no replacement numbers and C1TT-5023-E was replaced by C3TZ-5023-A

Oh, the C1TT 5023-E must have been a different design spec all together as used on the later model? The only models to use the extensions on the earlier trucks were the 1/2 ton panel (different number) and tonners that I saw in the catalogs. Stu

I agree. Here is what I did on my F2 that had the rear of the frame hacked off. I gave measurements to a local fab shop and they bent U-channels to the right size.
