engine swap 429
I have access to a 1970 ford thunderbird with a 429 thunderjet motor. The car is complete with all power and a/c. My 69 F100 has no power anything, it is a true 390 truck with the emblems on the fenders. I am rebuilding this truck and not keeping it original. I was going to see how much of this 70 Thunderbird would fit my 69 F100. I would like the power steering, power brakes, and definitely the A/C.

You'll have to get a power steering box for your truck, as well as the proper AC stuff to fit the cab. You might be able to use the brake booster from the T-bird....
Power disc brakes are easily had off a 73-79 truck.

PS: Engine runs a pump, and that will work. You have to provide the rest and for your year truck I do not know if it's linkage assist, or integral in the box or if an aftermarket item with integral PS will work.
PB: Engine provides vacuum, all the rest, which is a PB booster, is separate.
AC: Engine runs a compressor, all the rest is separate and must be installed in the cab, engine compartment and ahead of the radiator.
Transmission: 429 bell pattern is different than the 390. If you are 2wd you can use the car trans but will have to fiddle with the shift lever at the transmission.
What condition is the 429? That is a high compression motor from the days of leaded gas. Be sure the valves are good along with all the other usual suspects.
If that 429 is in need of a rebuild, IMO you would be better off to freshen the 390 and add all the power stuff via OEM parts that would bolt right on. (in theory, will be a treasure hunt for some stuff)

My plan is to pull the complete engine and tranny in one lift and then split the two apart. I want to replace the front seal in the tranny while I have it out weather it needs it or not. The engine is running and the tranny is shifting. The car has 60,000 original miles and the motor has not been messed with since ford built it. I realize I will need to get a power steering box for my truck. The motor mounts from what I have read will need to be changed out to 460 style mounts. I do not know if the t-Bird has a rear end with a locker and if it does I would like to see how much of a challenge to put that rear end under my truck. I have the front end and bed off the truck and will be able to check for clearances. This will be a personal truck for my self and a daily driver ,so I want to fix all the problems while I have it apart. I will need to get an evaporator for the ac, but the condenser should be ok since I will use the radiator from the T-Bird. I may have to modify my core support a bit. I have been looking here in North Texas junk yards for a 67 to 72 trucks that have ac but so far no luck. Most of the 67 to 72 trucks have been crushed. I see that LMC and Rock Auto have the parts I need. All I need is some cubic dollars to purchase them.

This is not about the motor, but I was able to use the front bench seat with fold down arm rest out of a 70 T-bird. It fit well with custom mounting brackets. The original seat and tracks where long gone out of my 68 F 100 Also I liked the fact that it had head rests. I will see if I have a pic to share. Cheers, JIM...

Way back in the early 80s I put a '74 Lincoln 460 in my '68 Camper Special. I used the C6 trans that came with the car just changed the tail housing to fit the driveshaft. I had AC on the 360 engine but used the Lincoln compressor since the mounts were there. Custom hoses finished the AC. I made my own motor mounts from scratch. I still have the truck. BTW I had a built 390 and the stock 460 out pulled it.

I think I will find some electric bucket seats with head rest and build a custom console for my shifter on the floor. I am hopping that this 429 will have more pulling power than my 390. I do not have a lot of choices where I live for parts for old trucks. I saw a 1977 F150 in a ranchers pasture and was told the motor was pulled but I would like to get that disc brake front end and adapt it to my 69 F100. I cant even find 5 lug rims here in a junk yard. A rancher I know gave me 2 chrome reverse rims in his barn and he did not want to move them around any more. There is a 85 and 87 truck in another field but I don't know what will work off those if anything and besides I have to kept one eye on a 1500 pound bull when I go out there. Picking parts can get a little hairy around here sometimes.

5 lug 'outie' wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle: 1966/79 F100; 1966/96 Bronco; 1969/74 E200; 1975/96 F150; 1975/2013 E100/150; Some 1980/83 F100's.
Note: Some 1980/83 F100's have 5 lug wheels on a 4.50" bolt circle.
If the Thunderbird's AXLE code stamped on the Warranty Plate begins w/a letter, it has Limited Slip, but...
This T-B's 9" rear axle has a 9 3/8" ring gear.
