Switching to ford

Hey new guy here really considering switching to a new f250 with the 6.7. I'm going from an 08 dodge with the 6.7 and looking for info. Truck will be a daily driver about 17 miles to work and 17 miles back home don't have a problem if I have to take it for a drive weekly for regen. Summer use will be road trips and towing the 35ft bumper pull. Debated between a f150 and f250 and chose the latter even though gvwr of camper is about 7000.
Do they come with a manual regen at all?
Another thing I'm wanting more ways to monitor the truck. Been doing a lot of research on forscan but also ran across ezlynk and not sure what that is. Truck will remain stock until warranty is up. The forscan seems like it has tons of pids ti monitor and I can get a tablet for it but the ezlynk sounds a bit the same. Correct me if I'm wrong but if I got the ezlynk and later delete the truck could I just send it in for tunes to be uploaded?

Had 5 Dodge / RAM's

1994 Dodge 1500 - Great truck lastest 20 years and 2 other family members
2000 Dakota RT - fun and fast very little trouble
2006 Laramie 1500 Hemi - not a bad truck, not a great truck
2012 Laramie 2500 4X4 CTD - this truck was a nightmare - FCA bought it back
2014 Laramie 2500 4X4 CTD - Ok when new except for a lot of electronic issues - then stuff started to happen - all kinds of stuff (cab issues, front end issues, frame / recall issues) - was in the shop for all kinds of things after the last repair and a stack of repair orders since new I finally had enough

Funny thing - have had zero issues with our 2015 eco diesel Grand Cherokee.

4/3/2018 - got a new F250 Lariat - Ultimate - blind spot - moon roof - power steps - blind spot monitor - 20" wheels - and a bunch of other goodies - so far 7300 miles - truck has been perfect - did upgrade the shocks to FOX 2.0's and will be installing the FOX stablizer. We love it and the best part no trips to the local Ford dealer. I drive the truck everyday to work 20 miles each way - backroads in the morning freeway in the evening. Zero issues and a real pleasure to drive. We love it - it is great on trips.

thumbs up on making the move to the F250

Only 1 ride better and that would be vehicle #1 listed below...... accept no substitutes....

My dodge has been decent to me but it gave me transmission problems for 2 years and front end steering problems now.

You cant monitor anything with Forscan. Forscan is something you can change small things in your truck. And EZ Lynk is a tuning device, you can monitor stuff with it but its for tuning purposes. What a lot of people run on stock trucks to keep an eye on everything is a Edge CTS device.

I thought you could with forscan. I've read some forums where they say they use a tablet and bluetooth obd 2 connector and can monitor multiple gauges that you couldn't with edge cts 2. But then there are other forums that people say they can change what they can monitor on the screen between the speedo and tach.

Kanoil - you can use ForScan to monitor on a phone or tablet. But it can't be Apple. There is a ForScan Lite app for Apple which I bought ($5) but it cannot communicate with the bluetooth OBDII reader. Androids don't have this issue.

You aren't going to have regen problems. My drive to work is very literally 1.3 miles each way. I do regularly pull trailers in the summer after work or on weekends, or take longer weekend drives.

Best thing to do is use FORScan or ask the dealer to enable the Exhaust Filter Screen. It just gives a percentage of how full the DPF is getting, and when a regen is happening...you'll see the percentage start dropping.

Manaul regen is available, but only as an option on basic XL or XLT trucks. However, some have said it can be manually added back in to any truck with FORScan. But I don't think you'll have a problem.

You want Forscan Lite, which is an app on Android or iOS. The Forscan (not Lite) software is Windows only. Other monitoring solutions are available but Forscan Lite seems to be fairly popular and can be less expensive than the hardware solutions.

Okay that's what I was wondering that'd be the route I'll go and wait for ezlynk when the warranty is up. I saw on there website the different links to the apps and recommended obd 2 adapters

I made the switch from a 13 Ram CTD CCSB Big Horn 6.7 to a 18 Ford F-250 Lariat CCSB 6.2 gas. I only use my truck for short trip/load errands or long road trips. Never had an issue with the CTD, just everything around it that Ram designed. I used an Edge Insight CTS2 to monitor Regen status and DPF load, which helped a lot after Ram removed the DPF Regen status display on DIC.
Emissions are the same regardless of make, delete or deal with it appears to be the only option. I’m in CA so there is no option. I will say the diesel kept pretty good resale value when I sold it to CarMax.
IMHO, Ford makes the better overall truck, Ram has the reputable Cummins contract keeping their HD’s popular.

Before you buy an OBDII adapter be sure you read the Forscan thread. It has a very specific recommendation for which adapter to purchase. Other brands/models _may_ work. The recommended brand/model _does_ work. This is a case where you don't want to be the Guinea Pig.

Welcome to the SD family. Glad to read you chose NOT to get a 1/2 ton for that bumper pull.

I just saw (this morning) a Tundra with a GN pulling a cattle trailer with about 5 heads and sagging. The old saying just cause it can don't mean we should.

The forscan is new to me and don't know if I even want to delve into it, yet.
But the folks here are a wealth of knowledge.
Enjoy your new rig and happy camping.

I am waiting on my USB adapter for FORSCAN.

I also recently made the transition from GM to Ford. I can't believe I never drove a Ford truck before.

My die hard Dodge father in law has been looking for a new Ram Cummins for a few months. He currently has a 95 12v 5 speed that is mint. Has several old Dodge muscle cars. Currently building a 71 Challenger with a 383 fuel injected with vintage air. Has a few Road Runners, GTX, Dart, etc. like I said- Dodge Guy. His buddies have new Rams.
We drove home in our new Lariat. Kicking the tires- talking trucks he jumps on the ground and crawls underneath. Muttering all kinds of stuff about the drivetrain.
We are now looking for him an XLT power stroke.
My second choice if persuaded would be a Ram. But the Ford just has too many things I like better. If you take the Cummins out of the equation- I wouldn't consider one.
