Well you have ruled out basic ignition stuff. Time to compression check and check for vacuum leaks. And define running like crap. Post a video if you can.
Ok don't know how you got on to the coil switch but did you get codes and if so what were they as I don't think I seen them posted?
You said it smelled rich. Pull the new plugs and tell us what they look like or better yet post up pictures of them.
Have you done a compression test so we know what we are working with?

edit: I should of posted this hours ago when I started typing it.

They suspected bad condenser so safe to assume they believed it was ignition related. Plus no start when hot. If that is a person's first thought then that is the first thing to check. Regardless it is ruled out.
Pulling codes in this case will be no help as all it will do is tell if the O2 is shot TPS is shot or stepper motor in the carb is done for. None of which would cause the issues he is having.

So not going back thru the posts why pulling the code will tell the O2 is shot TPS is shot or stepper motor in the carb is done for?
If that is the case and the computer is trying to compensate for them no wonder it runs like crap and hard start when hot.
If the computer is not controlling and older parts used to make it run right, then I can see why the coil change.
I would still like to know what the compression is & the plugs look like even more so that the IGN. has been ruled out so far.
Based on the user posting smelling gas I think it is a fuel / carb issue. Boiling fuel when hot can cause a hard start when hot.

the plugs are black, dont have a compression tester,i doubt the motor is hurt,

Black plugs is a sign of it running rich maybe time for a carb rebuild?
Also fouled plugs will make the motor run ruff & miss.
BTW I had a plug foul from running too lean. They were new and the motor only runb the get the car in & out of the garage or on & off trailer.
Started one day to move and anything more than an idle it would back fire out the exh.
At first I thought stuck valve but compression test showed other wise.
I found what cly was not firing, moved the new looking plug to a different cly.and found it was the plug.
New plugs fixed the miss fire and a new carb fixed the lean issue, rebuild would not fix it.
