transmission issues

I have the 4eod tranny on a 1994 Bronco 4x4 with a 351. I recently have experienced an unusual condition where the transmission seems to just drop out and then bang back into gear for no apparent reason.

It has occured with no load in the OD gear going 70mph, 5hours into a 7 hour trip. I then pick up a 5300 lb trailer and towed it back 400miles with no problem. The next morning again pulling 5300lbs 15 minutes into a 1hour trip with the OD disengaged (3rd gear) it happened again a couple of times and then the problem dissappeared. I have surmised that it therefore is not gear specific and not speed or weight specific nor temp.

Tranny's are a mystery to me. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

I have no confidence in the local tranny shop to say anything but I need a complete rebuild. That is their standard answer.

HELP!!!

NOTE: WE JUST ROLLED 3000HRS ON A MARINIZED 1976 302 WITH NOTHING MORE THAT ROUTINE MAINTAINANCE AND UPGRADED IGNITION. I WISH FORD WAS A STRONGER PLAYER IN THE MARINE MARKET.

transmission issues

I have a 92 bronco 5.8L and a couple of years ago I was on a steep uphill climb to an elevation of about 11,000 ft when all of a sudden the e4od gave out. I didnt work after that and had to take it to a tranny shop. They rebuilt it for $1,200.00 and upgraded a few items (the upgrade parts shipped from New Jersey) runs good now. The gears were all messed up inside, dont know how, dont know why. Have you checked your vehicle codes?

Try putting in some Lucas tranny fluid, seems to really help stop slipping and prolongs the life of the trans.
