Need help with new shoes

I’m about to replace the stock tires on my truck. I was hoping to go a little larger than stock but keep the factory rims. This has always been a fun process for me on all of my trucks but this time I am totally conflicted. I just cannot decide on an AT for my Superduty. I’m looking for an aggressive look, good snow traction, decent wear and good towing manners.

As of now I’m leaning towards these “finalists”:

1) Nitto Ridge Grapplers- I’ve never owned a Nitto but I love the look of these tires.
2) Goodyear Duratracs- look great but several reviews complain about their towing manners and I could only get them in stock size without changing rims.
3) Goodyear AT Adventurer with Kevlar- i’ve owned these before and they were very good tires. They’re the least impressive looking in my opinion and I could only get the stock size without changing rims.
4) Cooper AT3 (maybe XLT)- i’ve owned these before as well but not on a diesel. They were very good tires as well.

I would appreciate your opinions... I need pushed over the edge with one of these. Thanks!

Just replaced my stock Michelins with Duratracs. I love them I have had them on my previous F150 w/o any issue. They are awesome in the snow and do a great job on wet pavement. I haven't towed with them on the F350 yet but I had no problems on previous truck. The only down side is like you said stock size only. I'm not interested in lifting my truck or changing wheels like I have previously so it works fine for me. Good luck!!

I just put a set of Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my truck a few weeks ago. I love them so far.

Minimal noise for as aggressive of a tread as they have. I think I've decided I like running 55 PSI (cold) all the way around best.

I'm interested in this too. At the very least, I plan to replace stock rubber with some 35x12.5x18 tires with a more aggressive look. I was reading the Stage 3 sale thread and on their site, they have videos describing (in their opinion) the pros and cons of a lot of tires, and have them categorized as to whether the fit stock 17", 18" or 20" wheels. There was a Toyo A/T tire that looked pretty good for an A/T tire. I've had Cooper ST-Maxx tires that did very well, a friend likes his STT-Pro. We have had Goodyear MT/R w/kevlar and found them underwhelming, and I have heard complaints about the weak sidewall of Duratracs.

I'm interested in feedback from this crowd compared to the other folks we hang with (overlanders and offroad/Jeepers), because - like the OP - whatever I buy has to also tow well.

Duratracs on my last truck, diesel F350 and th y did berry well. Great winter, bush roads, summer towing. Only thing is, no tire lasts long on a diesel when you have a heavy foot. I have the Kevlar on my truck, and they are a good tire as well, did two winters, they won’t mak it to the third. I hear the cooper STT Pro is good, but not winter snowflake rated.

Not to complicate things if you've already made a decision, however, consider the Toyo Open Country ATII Extremes as a couple others have stated above. I recently switched to these from my stock Michelins in 295/65/20. Rides much better, looks great, added some depth in the fender well with no rubbing (stock suspension, no level) and no increased noise. I considered the Nitto Ridge Grappler as that is what we have on my wife's Jeep, it was just a little to aggressive for my taste with how I use my truck.

I have the Goodyear AT Adventurer with Kevlar stock on my 2017 SD. They are wearing fine, at 25,000 miles I had about 60% tire left. They have been "OK" but they seem to slip to much to me on wet surfaces (hard or soft). I have avoided mud with them because they simply don't have enough cleat to handle much IMO. But.... in what little soft material/mud I have had them in they have been "OK". I did loose traction on wet grass pulling a lime buggy....... but. I was no doubt moving faster than I should have been and nearly jackknifed the buggy around into the side of me...... gasp.

I ran 2 sets of Duratracs (about 90,000-100,000 miles) on my last F150. I was extremely pleased with their wear, durability, traction on and off road, etc. I plan to mount Duratracs in 12-14 months when I replace the stock set.
I may go with the 285/75/18 (35.1" x 11.2') which still specs an 8" rim ............ or stick with the stock 275/70/18.

NOTE: There is a tire that I read many great reviews on.... Toyo M-55s. Appears very similar to Duratrac...... a little more aggresive than AT but not a full out MT. They do have the stock 275/70/18 and no 20" but I wouldn't hesitate to try these either.

Ditto for Toyo AT2s

I’ve been a huge fan of Toyos over the years. The MTs are fairly aggressive and I had them siped to perform better in the snow & ice. The only draw back was the softer compound and siped equaled “chunks” of tread being removed.

I then opted for the Toyo RTs. Not as aggressive, but still large clunky tread that I ended up getting siped; little to no chunking.

Tomorrow, I will be replacing my Michelin’s with Toyo AT2s. I’ve heard mixed reviews on the Nitto Grappler, Cooper AT3s, Duratracks, and BFG KO2s. Wether it be wearing too quickly (Cooper & BFG) or pulling to the right (Nittos), I just decided to go with the tires I have had personal experience with. My MTs- I put 62K miles on them (ran 45F/40R) no tread warranty. The RTs- 67K same pressures with 45K warranty. The ATs have a 65K warranty on the metric sizes and a 60K warranty on the non-metric LT tires.

Good reviews, personal experience and a 45 day or 500 mile “if you don’t like them, get your money back” speaks highly of their build quality.

Toyo Open Country AT2

I opted to replace my Michelin with Toyo. Looks great, the 50k mile warranty on a LT tire, great reviews. I can't stand how small the stock tires look (17 inch rims) but I tow a fifth wheel and didn't want to get 35s either, the truck is way tall as it is. I chose the 285/70 17s. A little taller and wider than stock, makes the truck look like a boss at stock height.

The RGs are very popular around here, and I’ve never heard a bad thing about them. We don’t have to deal with much snow, though, in case that is a consideration.
