My antenna is broken off. If someone standing outside the truck touches the broken off shaft, the reception comes in great, so I take it the cable is still good. How do I remove and replace the old antenna? Do I need to take the dash apart? Take the radio out? Glove box?
I too faced the same challange. The antenna is on the right hand side, close to the curb and invites any juvie to twist it off. It looked like a bear to replace so I moved my antenna to the left, leaving the broken one in place. It was still a chore to drill through two layers of fender/cowling to pass the cable through but was worth it. I really like the left placement as I can now load long things from the right without worry. I also park the truck next to a tree and the branches treatened the antenna every time I parked. This approch solved a number of problems, may offend some purists and works great for me.
You used to be able to buy whips that could attach to the stub that is left on that mount if it's long enough to attach to. Might be an easy option if you can find one. MK
