My Driver side outer bearing was loose so I took the thing apart and set it correctly per the manual. Now I have everything working fine except for the clip that is supposed to go on the axel shaft. I can't push the locking hub sprocket back far enough to expose the grove this clip slips on. It looks like it did befor but... Any ideas? The manual has no reference to this being a special proceedure and right now the only thing holding my locking hub in plase is the outer clip and the bolts.
Insert a pry bar behind the outer u-joint on your axle and push the axle outward. This will expose the snap ring groove. It helps to have someone helping, but if no one is available you can get a strip of wood (wooden wedge) and lightly pound it between the housing and the u-joint. Either way will work
Ok, That took care of one problem. Now I need to replace something to make the noise go away when I lock my hubs. I'm guessing the U-joints can be rebuilt and the bearings are no big deal but what what else? I inherited this truck from my dad so I'm not worried about money. It works in 4X4 mode no problem but like I said, there must be some loose stuff under there. I'm also seeing play in the lower ball joint so that will have to be replaced also.
1. Is there a kit I can buy for the U-joints?
2. Is there a kit for the wheel bearing? (I have the hub kit 20.00 from the ford Dealer)
3. Is there something else I should or could change? Spider gears etc....
