Are the hot shot air filters and performance kits, like K&N, worth the money - I don't tow anything but if the engine breathes better and the ads are right about HP and fuel economy then why not ??

I installed a K&N a few years ago and have been disappointed with the results, i.e. no increased performance nor any better mileage. I'd put the $50 toward a chip/tuner if you want real gains.

Head to Superchips.com or the online store for much more info. Basically they retune your factory computer codes for better performance (advance timing a bit) and a host of other features. HP and torque gains can be fairly dramatic for the cost.

I have a K&N filter and have used it for a couple of years.
It's coming out today as soon as it stops raining for a few minutes.
The K&N seems to let more dirt into the engine.
I had my oil tested at Blackstone Labs and the test showed my silicon number being high.
Our oil forum Guru Flash gave me his opinion.
"Silicon 14- =dirt. have you changed/checked your air filter? I don't like seeing this number this high; preferably 6 or less."
Seems I wasted $50 on this K&N filter.Going back to stock ASAP.
