94 460 flowmaster/kn

I recently bought a 94 F-250 Reg Cab 4X4 460-Auto. After 1000 miles my only complaint is the noisy power steering pump and sometime soon I will try the Valvoline Syn-Power cure I read about on this forum. I stumbled across this web site a few days ago and have really enjoyed reading the archives. I have two questions and hopefully someone can help me out (please forgive me I know it's been discussed before).

First I have decided to get the Flowmaster muffler system, but I am not sure about which series (70?) or I/O diameter (2.5 or 3 in). Would it make much difference concerning power, torque, concerning the diameter? As far as the sound I would like something with a little woof, but at the same time want to be able to hear myself think in the cab while cruising down the road. Have any of you used flowmasters (without headers) on a 460?

Second I am considering the K/N filter charger, but after reading some of the posts wonder about its screening ability. I would like to squeeze another mpg from this 460 if I could. Has anyone had any problems with this filter system?

Thank You Much,
Montie

I have a EFI460 pickup that has a 3" dual exhaust system& Flowmaster Series 30 mufflers. I later added a Vortech blower,so that's why I went 3" diameter. If you don't want to lose low speed torque, and you don't have many upgrades to the EFI460,the ideal size is 2 1/2".Add an open element K&N air filter, and you'll notice a big difference! Before I added the blower, I had 3" duals on my truck for a week.It felt stronger in the mid&higher rpm range, but seemed a bit slower from a standing start.THE VORTECH CHANGED THAT,HOWEVER!!!Flowmaster series 50 mufflers I have on my '90 Bronco...they also are a good choice.

I also have Borla headers on it...yeah, it's WAY too loud! Stock exhaust manifolds will be quieter, but you won't see as big of power gain by using very restrictive EFI460 stock pieces. Ford really went out of their way to bottle-up the big 460.Like trying to breathe through a straw.... LET THAT BIG 460 BREATHE,man!!! You get used to the noise....

I have a 94 f350 crew cab 4x4. I have borla headers and complete borla exhaust. Its very quiet, but my exhaust is pretty long. I installed the k&n filter intake kit, big difference in power, and the k&n made the engine louder due to more air surface on the filter. You toss the old filter and air box. It made a huge improvment in power, especially for towing. I recomend the headers, if properly installed they should not make the truck much louder, but it will make the 460 come alive. You gotta love these big Fords!

Oh,

No problems at all with the k&n, the screen issue is crap, they filter exellent when properly maintained and oiled (not too much!). I have used them on cars and biks for years, great filters.
