Success, repin'd the cluster connector to a fresh line ran back to the sending unit and I now have a working fuel gauge.
I did not want to cut the existing wire so 77&79F250 hooked me up with a cluster connector with wires.
I released the wire/pin from the connector, plugged it into mine and connected the wire I ran to it.
Works as well as can be expected.
Thanks everyone for thinking this thru with me and all troubleshooting tips.
Oh and in the process of putting it all back together/wiring the stereo back in. (which stopped working now as well because it was cheap)
I found a super hot wire coming off the ignition that is troubling because it is burn yourself hot...
Sweet just what I wanted more electrical gremlins to fight..
Is the wire that gets hot off the ignition switch black with a green tracer?? If so, that is a resistance wire that runs to # 14 on the cluster plug. It powers the IVR.
No it appears to be a solid tan/cream wire. I haven't looked it up yet, so no clue on what it goes to. (might as well look now)
Not even sure if it's a factory wire, could be a patch from the PO.
Edited to add schematic doesn't show that color wire at all.. fun fun..
