E4od clicking sound

Hey all, I have a 1994 F350 7.5l gas with E4od, 41kmi (converted fire truck)
A while back while pulling a camper, the transmission front pump seal puked, so i dropped the transmission and replaced the pump and seal. Ever since i have had a clicking sound that i would like to diagnose, I pulled the tranny again to verify all looks well with the input clutch, and i have good looking oil with no steel in it.

The clicking sound only exists when 1 - oil is warmed up. 2 - engine and transmission speed is different 3 - every gear besides overdrive.

The clicking sound follows engine RPM, besides the top of every gear (moderate throttle before it shifts to the next gear, or no throttle, and never happens in OD). I always thought this was the input clutch basket because when i first disassembled to remove the front pump, I left it laying down and the first clutch fell out and was difficult to line back up and get in, I have since learned to stand it on end to take it apart. Upon dissassembly, everything looks good as it should for its low mileage, I'm thinking the torque converter is the culprit, but don't know of any way to troubleshoot it out of the truck. Removal and install..., and removal went easy, I have a great tranny jack and a lift so everything lined up nicely when i put it in. Any advice or confirmation on my feeling that the TC is likely my problem is much appreciated!

Thank you all.

Hi, just bumping you back to the top.

Can't come up with anything to suggest. Can't get past the image of a baseball card in the bicycle spokes.

I can picture what you are saying, once put a pump gasket in a C6, in the truck. Still, nothing.

Baseball card in the spokes is exactly what this sounds like. Thank you for the bump.

Fixed

Just to update, all fixed. The coast drum and OD ring gear were not aligned, which was trying to eat the OD clutch discs. F.y.i.. its trucky but these all go together at once and get dropped in together or the coast drum will force itself up into the pump. New clutch discs and a plastic washer and we are up and running smooth.

Good to hear. That all makes sense, nice that you pulled it back down before things got worse.

For what it's worth, puking out the front seal on E4ODs usually means they were overheating. Often once they cool back down, they won't puke until it gets overheated again. I recommend installing a bigger transmission cooler.

Agreed, when the seal went it was definitely working hard, but after that point to verify a failure i put on a permanent temperature gauge and any time over 140 degrees fluid would start pouring out. I do have a factory aux cooler and fluid also goes through the radiator cooler, it never goes over 180 degrees.
All good now, time to start pulling things!!
