Engine died while driving

Alright I find myself here again needing some input...! Today while driving my 99 f150 4x4 5 speed (4.6) I felt a slight miss while in 4th gear and didn't think much about it until it happened again! Except this time it felt like i was running out of gas but I had a half tank. So i was good on gas! I thought well I'll shift to 3rd because I would be approaching a stop sign soon. By the time I got to the stop sign I was struggling to keep it up to idle and as soon as I pulled out onto the road the engine completely shut down and I was lucky enough to get it off the road at an abandoned store. I started it back up and it shut down again! So to make this short I waited about 10 mins crunk it up again and it was back to normal! I was very fortunate that I was only a mile and a half from where I live! It's parked and I'm afraid to go anywhere in it now.! I'd like to hear some thoughts as to what this could be?

Gotta check the vitals. Fuel, compression, spark, and engine codes.

Compression and spark don’t seem likely based on your description. Fuel problems are more common.

Get you a fuel pressure gauge (not a cheap junk unit) and report back.

do you have a Check engine Light? Must follow that.

Another suspected problem could be backpressure in the exhaust due to failed catalytic converter(s).

also I suspect vacuum leak.

This is what I found while looking at the fuel regulator.! A hole chewed out on the fuel regulator vacuum hose by a rodent! Will this cause the engine to shut down? I'm thinking it will lol... See the attached pic

"Them...there varmints will do it every time!"
It amazes me what they'll try to eat! They also love the insulation on electrical/electronic equipment wiring also. Crazy!

That's probably the culprit. Some good duct tape will help "in a Pinch" till you get to the auto parts store.

I'm hoping that's the culprit... I just went to advance and purchased a rubber elbow and installed it! Man I just got it out of the shop not even 2 weeks ago and had a slave/master cylinder installed and then it shut down on me last week! So some test driving is the plan now

Update...! After finding the vacuum leak and then fixing it the problem has returned! Except this time it's a bit worse. After it gets to running temps the engine will idle for 5 mins or so and then it starts to too splutter and shuts down! It will not crank back up until a couple mins have gone by and then it will shut back down again after about 5 mins of idling... this morning it idle good without shuting down but i belive it was only because i didnt drive it to running temps? It has been throwing a PO420 code for quite sometime so this leaves me think the cats are gone
