2018 10spd trans

Just told the dealer to hold a new SCREW for me. I'm replacing a leased 2016 SCREW, 157" wheelbase w/ 3.5 and max tow. The only difference w this one looking at the sticker is 18" wheels instead of 20" and 10spd transmission vs 6spd. Mostly an around-town vehicle, that also tows my 26ft TT w/ the family (~5k miles/year).

So, any ideas what the difference will be like driving? Any good, bad, ugly about the 10spd?

Same 3:55 rear-end. Should I expect any difference (better?) MPG w/ this wheel/trans combo?

Thanks!
Kevin

The 2nd Gen 3.5L Eco with the added 50 lb-ft torque is a TRUE pleasure to drive!!

The 10 spd transmission is brilliant. Tow/haul mode and Sport mode are fantastic. IMHO...using Sport mode, turns the F150 into a BEAST!!

I have a 2018 SuperCrew with the 3.5L 10-speed Max Tow and 18" wheels. I can't tell you one thing that I dislike about it at this point. It is flat impressive all the way around.

What really impresses me is the the LACK of Turbo lag. You can be at idle, bury the accelerator and the truck is up to 60mph with no hesitation. Awesome

As long as the traction control is on. Otherwise it gets a little foggy around the rear of the truck for some reason..........

Wait, never mind. I'm too old for that kind of stuff.

The smaller wheels/larger sidewalls should get you a smoother ride plus a little more load capacity. The 10-speed should get you a little better MPG. The updated 3.5L EB is noticeably stronger than the previous generation.

mines behind a 5,0 with the 6.5 bed. it hunts and skips gears (especially 2 and 4) when driving with a very light foot. 7th is 1-1 and there are 3 overdrives. the 6 speed had no 1-1 and made ex heat when i was towing with my 2013 3.5 at least for me and i had a trans temp readout on my Edge monitor. i"ll bet the 18's and 20's have real close to the same diameter and the 18's with more sidewall will have a different ride. my ride changed when i put AirLift 2000# bags to help with the tongue weight of my car hauler. the 2018 has them too and i keep 15-20 psi in them when the truck is empty.

5.0 / 10 speed / 3.55 here, I find the Tow Haul mode is great. Set the cruise control and unless the hill get really extreme it holds speed very accurately, both up & down. I'm pulling less than you, truck on trailer, about 6,500#.

Seems like it took mine a month or so to maybe get used to how I drive. Was a little clunky here and there but went away and love it now

This is what impresses me of the 10 speed.
280 miles of 35 to 70 mph, interstate and mountain driving.

Even if it's off the typical 1 mpg characteristic if Ford, 26 mpg is great. Gotta be a 2.7 or base 6 cylinder.

His sig line says 3.5 eco, 3:55 rear.
I once got 26mpg for about 100 miles on my '13.

I currently am getting right at 22.9 on my last several tanks.
Hot weather and lighter summer traffic help out quite a bit.
