Transmission Problem
When I pull a load about 5000lbs. My transmission will leak fluid from the converter seal. I have measured trans temp with a temp gun during normal driving and my trans is no hotter than 180 I have not had a chance to measure it yet with a load. I just wonder is it a faulty seal, I only pull with the chip off. Also it does not leak from the overflow tube. It stops leaking after it cools.

JHunter it is most likely overheating. Mine did that 2 or 3 times on a trip to Fla. I slowed down to 55-60MPH and it quit. I put a trans temp gauge in it and ran it and temp got up to 250-300 degrees and it leaked again. Hasnt seemed to affect the trans. I added a huge exrenal cooler with a fan on it. It helped but it still will overheat if I drive to fast. If I back up with trailer on a hill it heats up real quick. I am thinking my torque converter is going bad.

Luckily for me I know hpw to rebuild E4OD. This one has had me baffled. If I back up very far with trailer especially on an incline it will overheat quickly. I tow a 7500 lb travel trailer and about a 6000 lb car hauler and if I dont drive over 70 it wont overheat but go any faster and it gets hot fast.The fluid looks perfect nothing in the pan but normal wear. It has had me baffled but I will drive it till it dies then fix it. It has been acting up intermittently for about 3 years. What can I say Built Ford Tough.
