Cold weather driving
New here with a new 03 Excursion Lmtd 4x4 6.0 PSD. My duramax came with 2 free front covers from GM to put over the grill and bumper for non-towing driving in freezing temps. Helped the truck warm up better and produce more warm air for the heater in the winter. I'm assuming the 6.0 needs something like that too, right?
I ordered a Lund plastic cold front for it but I don't think it's going to work. It says it's for a super duty on the box and is thin strips. Does anyone know if there's one available for this truck?
I have a heated garage so I probably won't have to worry about plugging it in but I still have a question about that. My dmax would start without being plugged in down to at least -20f. Will the 6.0 do that? Sometimes that happens if I'm on the road in the winter and stay at a hotel, etc so just wondering.
Thanks
and the remote starter I had installed SHOULD help pre-warm the truck...
(Sure helped with the summer heat to get the A'c going early!)
but my experience with the 7.3L was that I never had a problem last winter...
Will let the more experienced 'truckers' respond - which I'm sure they will :-)
Good luck!
John
I think the 6.0 has something in it to help with the glow plugs at a colder temp. If the temp gets colder then -30 in the oil patch where I work we just let the trucks all night..
My truck seem to run up to 1000 rpms after i let it run for 5 mins. Hit the break and gose to 500.
