I have a 1997 F-250 diesel that is very difficult to fuel. With a high-speed pump, it continually cuts the nozzle off. With low-speed pumps, I have to run it by hand and very slowly to get it to take more than 10 gallons into a 19-gallon tank. Does anyone have an idea of what's wrong and how to fix it? We have had the truck since 1999, and it's always done it. We are planning a long trip this fall and would like to not have to spend at least 20 minutes filling the tank every time.
I think there is pressure release venting along the fill neck that vents incoming fuel so it doesn't build up back pressure.
Seems like it might be a tube... Checking... The flow of fuel into the tank is going to create back pressure.. Some gas stations have vacuum pumps around the nozzle to draw off the fumes.
Look up you vehicle make, model, etc and see what kind of venting system it uses.
Some have external vent tubes... If you have one, it might be pinched or clogged...
