Bug deflector Rusting Attachments
i bought the Ford chrome OEM hood bug deflector, HC3Z16C900-B, from ford dealer April 2017 for $150. The attachment clips that hold it to the hood have rusted severely leaving rust marks on the top of the headlights. I have my truck at Ford for fuel tank TSB and asked about the rusting clips.They are replacing the bug deflector under warranty with a newly redesigned version HC3Z16C900-D that lists for over $300.
So if you had purchased a Ford OEM bug deflector last year look at the attachment clips. If they are rusting bring it to ford.

I like my old style (smoke) like yours. Black rustoleum paint on the clips when I installed it and it still looks new. The new ones attach with tape I think and I'm not a fan of tape on the hood.

That sounds like the old style like mine. Part HC3Z-16C900-C when I google it (TascaParts) looks like mine and the OPs. I think the new ones are made by LUND and use double sided tape. Maybe somebody that has a new one can chime in with more info.
