A while back I had been posting some of the updates about my '87 F350 and working all of the BS out of it that the previous owner did. I replaced so much stuff on this truck that I told my wife "it's damned near a new truck at this point, the only thing left to fail is if I throw a rod or something". Well, that was apparently the hint I needed to give the universe that the truck wanted to let loose the mortal coil on the side of the road.
A trite 2 days after getting an oil change and 54 miles later I was driving from my shop back to my house when a cataclysmic noise and enough smoke to look like I was about to storm the beaches of Normandy my beloved shop truck had given up the ghost completely. I found a motor to put in it but I couldn't really afford the downtime of not having a truck so I found me a 5 liter 2013 F150 XL to replace it. I'll end up putting another motor in it and selling it in the next few months but until then I share with you the gruesome underbelly of a once mighty truck.
WOW. That is sad especially when you put so much effort into trying to return it to its former glory. Hope the new truck works out for you and you can recoup some of your investment when you replace the engine in this one.
Admittedly part of me is thinking about taking some pictures of it and just sell it as is for like $1500. I'm probably $5k in it total at this point but I just don't feel like putting a motor in a truck I'm not going to keep. Given how much stuff I've replaced on it someone could actually have a pretty decent truck on the cheap either way.
The big pain is that the damned thing won't fit through the door of my shop so I'd have to do the motor swap either at my house or with the cab poking through the door to the shop since the bed is 6" wider than the door.
Probably not worth putting the $$ or time for an engine swap if all your going to do is sell it.
May as well open your wallet and give your money away.
I wonder if the PO may have stretched the oil pan just a little in order to fit a HV oil pump in there and it just gave away?
If I found a dead squirrel in the oil pan of this motor I wouldn't be surprised. The previous owner was so shady that it took me 9 months of un-f'ing it to make it a nice driving truck. That's the ultimate B of it all, I put so much time/money/sweat into it that it was truly a GREAT TRUCK right up until the last moment. I hate to sell it but that air blows mighty cold in my new '13 F150 XL with the 5 liter in it.
