94 F150 with the 3-2 blink. I've read the posts and I'm trying to decide to fix it myself, dealer, or leave it. I'd like to have a horn, but here in Florida with no inspection I can get by without, or maybe a separate button somewhere. Anyhow, my questions are regarding the airbag:
1) With the 3-2 blink is it probable the airbag will not deploy if activated by a crash?
2) I'm kind of on the fence regarding the merits of an air bag, specially on a relatively large vehicle (compared to a compact car). Also my sister was involved in a very minor fender bender and was beat up by an airbag, and now they provide switches to shut them off, on the passenger side only I guess. What do y'all think about leaving the airbag disconnected altogether when I fix the blink and horn?
My best suggestion is that if you do not feel 100% about doing this job, then let someone who knows how to do it properly do it. Too much at stake. Airbag to face type of situation. I believe that you need to disconnect the battery and NOT touch a thing until after approx. 20 min in order to deactivate but I am not sure. Something like this I leave for the pro's. My thoughts. There is a VERY in-depth article on the boards somewhere about replacing the clockspring by yourself. I have a 4-2 blink that I've learned to deal with as the clockspring is over $100.
It most likely won't deploy, but I am not certain about this.
I'd get it fixed, I guess. You're probably bigger and stronger than your sister/daughter/whomever you stated and will withstand the impact better than she.
