Wheel sensor for speedo?

Hmm.. I ask because when I was rebuilding the e-brake linkage thing at the rear wheels and de-rustifying everything back there I noticed the read hubs are toothed with a magnetic sensor hovering over them. I'd assume either speed or possibly traction control related. Anyway the reason behind the ask is that the dealer, when I bought my truck, replaced both rear tires and the spare. Not sure if they just didnt pay attention or used what they had in stock but the tires are a different size. 265/65/18's on the front and 265/75/18's on the back. Looking at the side profile of the truck you can't tell there's a difference, but seeing as how I got a ticket the other day I wonder how the truck is measuring speed and if my speedo is correct or not.

Pretty sure the vehicle speed sensor is transmission, transfer case or differential ring gear. Wheel speed will vary in tight corners so it would show slow or fast by some pretty good margins at times.
Wheel sensors are ABS which the traction control uses as well.
