Too many DPFE sensor replacements

1998 Expedition 5.4 166,000 miles.

I purchased this in the fall of 2017 and replaced the DPFE with a NON- Motorcraft DPFE sensor and then February of this year got a code P1400 again- so replaced the DPFE sensor with a Motorcraft.
Here it is June and am getting again P1400.

I have only driven this vehicle for only 300 miles since the purchase of the Expedition and have put on 2 DPFE sensors.

Is there something causing the sensor to go bad?

Thanks Jeff

Additional note...Both times I got P1400 and I did not test either DPFE sensor just replaced them. When the Motorcraft DPFE was installed, the Expedition ran the best it ever did. When the code P1400 appeared it ran sluggish and after pulling the pontoon 30 miles code then P0304 came on. I have a new coil on order for cylinder 4 replacement.

You should probably try going through the actual troubleshooting instead of just replacing a part because a code's definition made reference to the part. The codes do NOT indicate that a part is bad, they indicate that the data received from the sensor was outside limits, a condition that could be caused by a number of possible causes. The actual troubleshooting procedure removes the guesswork and allows one to pinpoint, with a very high degree of certainty, what must be repaired or replaced.

Yes, you are correct - was hoping for a simple explanation. Seems funny when a new DPFE is put on, the truck runs better and the P1400 code does not come back.

thanks!

Well tested the DPFE EGR Flow SIgnal and was only getting .0331 V instead of .9 and as vacuum was applied it did not change indicating a bad DPFE.
Seems funny to have two bad DPFE sensors within 300 miles.

I should have bought the first one with a lifetime warranty from local but my cheap *** had to buy two expecting online cheaper ones to work.
