We have some friends who have a '66 Falcon. It sure looks the same to me! Guess I'm gonna' have to park them side-by-side and compare. The '66 is definitely based on a Falcon platform, it wasn't until '67 that they were based on a Fairlane.
Anyone know where to find the gasket for the part of the bed floor that is removeable to access the rear shock mounts for the 66 Ranchero? Mine is all dried and cracked and does not seal anymore. Also, is the bed trim regular metal or some other type of metal? I'm not a big fan of chrome and want to mold and paint or simply remove and cap the sides, any ideas? Also, I cannot find what the actual paint code name for my 'Chero, the code says F, but that is not listed in my catalog. It was built in NorCal.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm putting a 5 speed in her but I need to find a column without the shift arm for either the auto or manual. Any ideas? I dont recall if the 66 came with a floor mount shifter or not and I don't think I can connect the 5 speed to the factory column shift without MAJOR work ( would be cool though ).
I don't know how hard you have looked for a gasket but there are several specialty companys selling repro Ranchero parts. Mac's is one and Dearborn Classics is another.
As far as I know a 4 speed floor shift was available into the early 70s so a floor shift column should have been available in a 66. Another interesting possability would be a column from a column shifted econoline 4 speed. It would seem that would have 3 gates but I have never actually looked at one, I just have heard they made them.
