I need help. I have a 97 Expedition 4.6 that keeps throwing a code for a misfire on cylinder 4 and cylinder 8 replaced the coil pack (cluster pack) 2x replaced the spark plugs 3x on #4, replaced the wires still throws code. How ever it does run better for a few miles. Had it tested #4 for does not have a 100% compression. Just the other day went to pull out of the parking lot and it hesitated and wouldn't go, every time I push the gas it tries to shut off if I hold the gas down it completely boggs down. What could be the problem?
192xxx miles.
92% if recall correctly.
p304 p308 and a lean code
Not sure about the fuel pump and filter. But the man I bought it from 2 years ago said he replaced all that.
Not sure about fuel pressure it just happened the other day so still suiting in parking lot till I can afford to have it towed.
Go to one of the auto parts stores that has a loaner tool program.
Get their loaner fuel pressure gauge and hook it up to the vehicle and see what the fuel pressure is.
If it's throwing codes for running LEAN, insufficient fuel is the problem. Checking fuel pressure is a wise move just to rule out the possibility. However, insufficient fuel pressure would affect drivability across the board and the most pronounced effect would be on the injectors FURTHEST from the fuel pump.
One other thing to consider is a gunked up injector. When tuning my 3-rotor RX-7 a few years ago, it kept falling on its face. So we pulled the primary fuel rail, injectors were covered in rusty goop. Cleaned them up, reinstalled and it was much happier. Still needs the engine rebuilt tho... :/
