If this is not appropriate for this forum I guess someone will delete it but I hope they don't. I don't know Phillip but his grave is next to those of my wife's parents. My wife goes to the cemetery several times a year to put flowers on their graves and she always puts a flower on Phillip's grave too. As you can see on his tombstone, next month will be 50 years since he died. I'm going to bring in a vase of flowers and put them on his grave on Sunday June 24th. I got my driver's license in June of 1968 and think of all I've done since then that he's missed out on. He died a month before his 20th birthday. I served two years in the Army in the early '70s but didn't go over there so I guess I was lucky. Anyway, please keep Phillip and all of our other military heroes in your thoughts and prayers this weekend....
Amen to him and the countless other souls who paid the ultimate price and to theirs family who may have lost their only hope of keeping the family name going on. So sad we have so many of your young Americans whose lives were tossed into a world of hate and madness in a far away place only to have it end before he even had a chance to live.

May everybody know what Memorial Day is all about and remember the ones that gave there lived for our Freedom.
An old shipmate of mine took his family on vacation to France last year and had an opportunity to visit the grave site that is now home to the men who lost their lives on Normandy and Utah beaches in WWII. The rows and rows of white crosses that represent Americans in a far away land is very humbling.
I hope that our fellow Americans enjoy the weekend, BBQ, hoist a few and embrace their families in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice to help guarantee our freedoms that we all take for granted.
I keep all of my brothers and sisters that served along with those that sacrificed their lives for this Country in my heart every day. You'll have to forgive my not being able to show appreciation to our Country's for leaving Vietnam with our tail between our legs. Flowers and memento's are for the living. They do absolutely nothing for the dead. It's what's in our hearts and the actions that we take that count.
I joined at 17, 04-13-1972, spent 4 years active then though a special program and agreeing to 4 years reseve time transfered straight to the National Gaurd. I did that plus and retired on 09-19-1993 for 21yr 5 mon 7days total service never went overseas. I tried to go to Desert Storm but was denied (said I ws too old) at 37? anyway. I Honor POW-MIA everyday. and My Great Grandfather, Grandfather WWI (mothers side) My Dad who was in WWII and Korea, who all came back alive My Dads baby brother who came back from Nam but died from Agent Orange. All those how never came home. Those that only partially came home. I salute and rever them all.
