Supposedly it sold for $18,900. I looked at it several times online. What got me was that it said mostly original paint. Also had a rust spot what looked like was on the cowling.
Truck looked nice but I don’t feel it was almost $20k nice.
I was looking for a silver one for the longest time. Problem was is people on eBay and guys doing consignment would shine them up claim that they’re 100% rust free and that the original motor makes it worth over 10 grand. Pretty much all horse crap, The original 360 or 400 by this time is tired as hell and they need oversized radiators or they overheat like a **** on every summer day. It was frustrating looking at trucks like this and seeing what people thought that they were worth. After over a year of looking pretty continuously I stumbled upon my explorer edition(30 miles from my house, the internet scolling was usless) he had already said the original 400 was a joke and he replaced it with 302 block in great condition, built the head and did the oversized radiator. He wanted it out of his garage so he could build a Super cab for the family. Got the truck for way less than 10 grand. Which came off as a steal considering i was clicking through 76’s that people wanted 14,500 for(all the original garbage included).... i love the body lines on the explorer package, hate the original garbage they ppl think is valuable.
I'm with you Johnny. I think it looks tough as hell. I also agree with the previous posts. I also think there are more than a few guys and gals who frequent this site who would feel pretty good driving it down the road.
Was the bright molding in the dentline even available with the Explorer package?
Together with the stripes, it looks like "too much," kind of like wheel arch bright moldings on a truck with the racetrack moldings.
Not at all, its just that some people do not like that look. I believe that if you have the race track chrome from the factory, you normally would NOT get the wheel well chrome too.

I think Ford would not sell you wheel arch moldings with race-track trim. Someone posted a pic of one on here a few months ago, and Number Dummy caught it and explained it.
I just don't recall seeing a truck with that Explorer stripe and the molding inside the dent, and it looks a little busy to me The stripe looks better surrounding the truck's paint color.
Now the wheel arch moldings are perfect on trucks with that Explorer stripe.

IMO: The upper body side moulding was added by a previous owner, because it was not available on Rangers.
The wide upper body side mouldings with the black vinyl insert: 1973/76 Ranger XLT .. 1973/79 Rangers had narrow upper body side mouldings without the vinyl insert.
I have been out voted! Lol. Just wanted to say how much I appreciate all you guys and respect you for imparting your vast knowledge to those of us in need. I recently replaced the "gypo" mirrors on my F100 with original Fords and they look soooo much better . And they work better to boot. Thank you ND for always pointing them out. I never twist a wrench on either of my Dents without researching on FTE first. Once again ..Thank you!
Sounds like you got a killer deal! And hear you about the rust issue. I sold a car online last year, and I was super careful to make sure the guy knew what he was getting. Fortunately, he loved it.

The brochure post on post 8 states:
"Narrow bright bodyside moldings included on flareside only. Narrow bright bodyside moldings or optional vinyl insert bodyside moldings are available with tape stripe delete option.
My Dada bought a 76 Explorer in Medium Blue Metallic with white stripes brand new and it had the moldings on it inside the dent with the black vinyl inserts. I remember because I polished it all when I restored it in 2002 or 2003. I'd still have that truck today if some sorry piece of crap hadn't stolen it. It still makes me mad after 13 years.
