AFAIK, the 'wedge' replaced the hemi in 1959 ChryCo cars.

"Wedge" shaped combustion chamber, vs. "Hemi" which is a hemispherical shaped chamber.

Hemi, think half a grapefruit:

Wedge, think--well, wedge:

https://racehemi.maxwedge.com/topics/heads.php

These are both Chrysler engines, as Chrysler had the Hemi, Poly, Max Wedge, Hemi again back in the '50s to the '70s, Eventually, the "wedge" won out. Some are more heart shaped, with as many variations as there are engines and model years.

The current "Hemi" from Mopar is really more of a polysphere.

Ed, I seem to recall that the ChryCo wedge replaced the hemi in 1959 Imperial/Chrysler/Dodge/DeSoto.

Chrysler/Imperial hemi: 331 = 1951/56, 392 = 1957/58. Dodge and DeSoto's also had hemi's, but I don't recall when and the sizes.

I once owned a 1955 Chrysler C-300 331 hemi with dual quads. This was the first of the letter series, the 1956 version was the 300-B.

The current hemi's are "semi" hemi's.

Question wedge motor

I have a 1967 F250. I found a company in Glendale AZ. Bench Work Steering. I asked if they have power steering for my truck. They asked me if it was a wedge motor? I never heard of a Ford wedge motor?

No Ford vehicle of any year has a wedge motor, whatever the hell that is. 1967 would have a 240 or 300 I-6 or a 352 2V

Bendix P/S: 1966/68 F100/250 2WD, 1969 F100/250 2WD before serial number D96,001.

Ford/Saginaw P/S: 1969 F100/250 2WD & F350, 1970/79 F100/250 2WD & F350.

The Bendix unit is troublesome and all the parts including the seal kits are obsolete.

Ford/Saginaw is a better unit, seal kits are available from Ford and auto parts stores. The only problem is that the steering column has to be changed.

Since Ford went away from the Flathead engines in the 50's all Ford engines were wedge designs at least through the 80's except for the Boss 429's which are semi-hemi's.
Chrysler had a poly-spherical head engine in the 50's as well as the hemi. They use the term wedge in 1964 to distinguish the difference in the 426 Hemi and the 426 Max Wedge, The 318 up until 1966 was a Poly-spherical head. The B engines 350-440 were wedges. The later 318's were a different block like the 273-360 and were wedge heads as well.

Are you sure they wern't meaning to ask if yours was a Windsor?
