Major Breakdown.........Less than 150 miles

My second day of ownership.......I had picked it up in Minnesota the day before.......drove it back to Iowa and was on my way to work the next day.....both days having driven at 65-70mph....I had just gotten to my second stop sign in the city and I go to start out and terrible shudder and loud thumping. I'm at a very busy intersection so I just nurse it through and then decide to go the next few blocks to work as it has quieted down. The steering is all wonky. I pull into the parking lot and get out to look and what do I see. My rear axle is crooked. I really can't see anything just looking underneath it but know I need to have it towed to a shop.......they call me and tell me one of the lower rear trailing arms has rusted through and the other lower arm is crumbly. The air shock on one side has popped (the suspension was still up when the wrecker left with it and oh...by the way, the drive shaft is missing.....Ugh......all this on a by outward appearance rust free body. Still at the shop waiting its turn.

Rusted out lower rear control arms is a big issue with these vehicles. There are many good threads on here dealing with their replacement.
