Truck in your signature: 1976 F350 Super Camper Special 460 ci 4 spd 3.73-1.
No such thing as a 460 with a manual trans until 1983.
Yes. You are correct ND.......originally came with a C6, but my Dad decided he wanted a 4spd so he swapped it out. I plan to put a C6 back in it as I prefer not to shift and I'd like it to be mostly original.
Wow you got a 4 speed in your '76 F350? *AND* 3.73 gears? You must get pretty good gas mileage. Is that manual transmission? I know F350 Camper specials with manual trans *are* pretty rare. I got a 3 speed auto 460ci with C6 with 4.10 gears and in town its like 8MPG - so far last time I measured
The 4spd isn't original. Suppose to be a C6. My Dad thought a 4spd would be better for pulling (he had a 36ft 5wheel at the time) and he had already gone through 2-3 autos (Over the years). I plan to put a C6 back in it. As for mileage, I really don't know but my past experience with the 385 series engines leads me to guess it wont get anything better than 9-10mpg's. I had a 79 F150 4x4 with a 400, RV cam and a Carter 625 and it consistently got 10mpg, maybe 11 with a tailwind. haha

I was looking at trailers last weekend (RV trailers), wow some of 'em get up to 13,000lbs. Looks like my truck supposedly can pull up to 10,000lbs with a fifth wheel..but not sure I'd want to try it lol. Its crazy I guess a 460 can run head to head with today's diesels? I'm not very good at understanding tow capacities, etc. so I'm probably wrong somehow. Like, I see the GVWR but that's for load in the bed + truck weight. I have had a harder time finding tow weight capacities. I thought I found a chart that showed with a 7.5L and 4.10 gearing you could go to 10,000 lbs...
but if your dad was towing a 36 footer with a F350? I guess it probably can handle quite a bit
Pump your tires up to 65PSI :P maybe get another .5MPG LOL

My truck is rated for 10,000GVWR. Stamped right on the warranty plate but I'm sure it was over the GVWR pulling the 36ft trailer. I seem to recall that the trailer alone was around 12,500lbs and it kinda dwarfed the truck. When I was a kid my family had an 11ft camper and a 22ft Fiberform cabin cruiser boat that the truck dutifully pulled all over The Evergreen State and parts of Oregon. Took it across the truck scales once and that whole combo weighed in at 14,000. Id say the truck was a little over loaded. hehe (And mileage dropped to an abysmal 5-6mpg)
