I have a 4 wheel drive ford f150. I think I need to replace the manual locking hubs but they are the flange type. I can only get these from dealer at $250 a piece. Can I convert these over to these over to the type locking hubs warn sells but switching out the spindle and related parts? If so, would this be cheaper than the dealer parts?
The only hubs I've heard refered to as flanges are drive flanges which are locked in 4wd full time. So I think you are talking about replacing the stock auto hubs cause the dealer dosn't sell drive flanges so I'd say just replace them with warn manual hubs - $60-$80 bucks...you won't regret it.
Jeff, I am guessing you have an 87 or early 88?
If so, try pricing the spindle, etc. at a yard.
Our pinelands area yards are awful on prices; makes it feasible to buy new at time;;i.e. a door for our 92 van is priced @ $550.00 + 6% tax!..and it wasn't in excell or even vg condition at that
Ok, I have a related question. I was driving home and the steering felt strange and unresponsive for a few seconds. I pulled over and checked the steering gear and axle. The only thing I noticed when inspecting the front end is a little oil drip out of the stock auto hub. Anyone had this problem? Not sure if the steering was really not functioning correctly because it worked fine the rest of the way.
