I wanted to raise or eliminate the approx. 95 mph speed limit on my 2003 6.8L (gas) V10 Excursion Limited and started looking for a replacement chip with little success until I recently dicovered this forum. Now I need some help please to pick through the various options.
Do I get a chip or a tuner? What is the best chip/tuner for me? I want the best performance and don't mind paying for premium fuel if necessary.
Are other upgrades such as exhaust necessary, desirable or unnecessary. If desirable or necessary, what are these upgrades and what are the best options for me?
By the way, we love the Excursion, our first. We installed (pre-delivery), TV, VHS, and a DVD player housed in a new larger front console with a second DVD player and the Xbox with 4 wireless controllers, 4 independant 7" screens in the headrests (new rear headrests same as the front) with wireless headsets, remote start and law enforcement style strobe lighting package.
Either a chip or tuner will do the trick. Until last week a chip would have been your only option but Superchips just updated the Microtuner to support 2003 trucks/suvs.
I don't recommend you get the exhaust unless you do an intake kit as well and plan to chip it or tune it. Sometimes you'll lose a little low end performance with the exhaust (while gaining in the mid and top end) but an intake and chip will make up for it.
Sounds like you have a nice ride! A theater and entertainment center on wheels!
Thanks for the heads up, Ken. From previous posts it looks like a Diablo is probably the way to go for best performance. Do you agree? Given that, would you recommend an intake and exhaust as well. If so what products would you recommend?
