OK I finally think I have made up my mind. Actually my wife made it up for me and told me she'd had enough and stop dithering, she actually used stronger words then that. She also made the point that we tend to use our trucks as trucks and for a couple of long hauls of our TT every year. We don't tend to use it as a daily driver, our 2007 Tundra "only" has about 120 000 miles on it, and we live in the country where everything is a long way. She said why not get the HTTP/MTTP and be done with it and I think she might be right. I know it will be overkill for our 6500 TT, or the 6000 pound horse trailer, but it sure would be nice not to have worry about Payload, GAWR, GVWR, etc. (within reason of course),
The HTTP/MTPP actually seems like a no brainer and costs less then 600.00 more then my previous build.
The build
157 WB, SCREW, 500a Lariat, Tailgate Step
NOTE The Canadian base Lariat is actually not badly equipped
My Question what downsides might there be to a HTTP/MTTP that I might be missing what I have so far
Lower MPG due to 3.73 axle and weight (which I calculate to be about 204 pounds) not sure what the hit will be.
Rougher ride, I was already getting LT tires so it might not be too bad especially if I lower the pressure when not using their capacity
Ugly wheels I know subjective but not as nice as some
Anything I'm missing?
Thanks for the help you people have been a great resource.
The only downside I can see is the limited amount of options available. If you’re okay with that, then that’s not an issue.
As far as ugly wheels, the HDPP now has 6 lugs. Any late model F150 wheels will fit. Just don’t use a take off set with P rated tires on them. Ford says the aluminum wheels with the HDPP are heavy duty, but they look exactly like mine, just painted solid silver.
