I just had a blowout on my wifes F250 PSD one of the firestone Steeltex A/T s on the left front exploded, wraped around the axle yanked the wheel out of my hand and sent us right into the cable deviders. 10K plus in damage. I checked and found no recall info on the tires but Firestone wants the tire. Well we went down to the body shop to get the tire and there was the truck, I walked over to look at it while my wife went inside and I was looking at it and thinking I remember the tire tore up the fender well and ripped the sensor wires off the wheel, but I didn't remember it tore off the brake lines" and my wife walks up with a guy from the office and says "Thats not my truck".
Turns out they have three vehicles in there right now with the exact same Firestone Steeltex A/T blowouts, My wifes F250 PSD, another exactly like it with the same exact wheel and circumstances minus the cable devider and a chevy PU with the same tires and a front end blowout, ut Firestone says the aren't having any unusual failures with these tires.
My brother bought a new SD a few monthe ago and made them take the firestones off. Since you didn't get hurt, thank God, and you insurance will pay for the truck, I would just chalk it up to experience and avoid Firestone tires ijn the future. I used to work at a Firestone dealer and I immediatly remove them from any car I buy. I still have one left on my enclosed trailer. The other one gernaded and tore off the fender. Well good luck with the whole thing but you saw what it took for firestone to step up to the plate on the Exploders.
I may have to get my brother to remove the Firestones from his S10 Blazer.
Back when Ford and Firestone had that recall on the Explorers, my brother had the same batch on his truck, I told him to take them in and get new ones. He got them all right. My buddy did the same with his Blazer. Since I worked at the Costco tire shop, I had access to the problem batch numbers, and wound up getting them a total of 8 new tires.
Sorry to hear about your wife's truck. Glad to hear it wasn't worse (as in no brake line) and you're all okay.
The only bad part about the 8 new tires was they were still firestones bigrig. If you work at costco you can get BFGs can't you? That is my favorite tire and I never had a bad one.
I, being the cheap ******* I am, often buy Kelley Springfield tires for my small truck as they can be purchased cheap and I abuse the hell out of it and usually tear holes in them before they wear out, I even keep a plug kit in the truck. I have actually had very good luck with the KSs they are good tires .Otherwise I buy Michelin, Goodyear and Dunlops whichever I can get a good deal on.

I don't work for Costco anymore. Haven't for 3 years. Costco didn't sell the Exploder tires anyway. I could have shown my brother and my friend the light and told them to go with the Michelins, or BFGs, and I did, but they both being cheap, got free ones from Firestone.
While we are talking about Costco, when the whole tire fiasco was going on, some area Ford dealers were buying ALL the P235/75R15 Michelin LTX A/Ts. As soon as we got them in, we'd sell a set, and the dealership guy showed up and took the rest. Went on for a couple of weeks, until Michelin caught up to the dealerships order. Made some of our customers mad though. They had to special order them and wait for a regularly stocked item.
Another side note: Any kids out there looking for a good rewarding job with good benefits while putting themselves through college should think about applying at Costco.
I had the same thing happen with a general tire on my wife’s expedition. We were driving to San Diego on vacation and the left rear tire separated before we got to Yuma. I limped the rest of the way and found a discount tire store. They put on the only tires that were available at the time and the person asked me if I wanted to keep the tire for insurance purposes.
I tooled around on vacation with a tire in the back and a P/O’ed wife. When we got back, I notified my insurance company and they sent me to the body shop. The clamed writer said that it was a common occurrence and there were three other expeditions being fixed for a separation. My insurance company took the tire and conducted independent test before submitting a claim to general. The insurance company stated they would not pursue it, because there was too much wear on the outer edge of the tire. The separation was an inch into the tread, so I though different. I was pissed, but like others have said, I was thankful to God that nobody was hurt in this incident and it cost me $500 in a deducible. (Glad I had not raised my deductible like I was planning.)
