I’m guessing that may depend on if I want to tow with the truck or work on it next weekend.

I suggest you do both, work, then tow, then you can toss some smiles into the mix🤣🤣🤣

THANK GOODNESS you finally released this information to the public! I have been keeping it from the forum and text messages since you told me the other day. I truly and wholeheartedly hope this is the absolute best solution for your application.

Dude, you moved at lighting speeds.

In other news, @akcooper9 towed his 5th wheel 100 miles yesterday with his new 4.30 gears and loved it. We have been going back and forth regarding speed, RPM, EGT, boost, etc for quite some time and he is very happy with the new 4.30 gears and his large diameter tires. The gears bring his RPM back up to what it would have been with stock sized tires, which is the sweet spot for the 364.5 large turbine wheel that we both run. I told him this morning, that is why I didn't even see 900 degrees when towing our 5th wheel home last week.

I wasn't even aware he was doing gears... He went with 4.30's over 4.11's, interesting....

I tagged him in my post, so I will let him explain the reasoning more if he so chooses, but the 4.10's would not have put the RPM's where he wanted them with his large diameter tires. The tires were staying, despite how much I told him that was the easier way to get to the RPM goal. Stubborn TX man I tell ya!

LOL.. I think I still plan on down sizing my tires to 285/65R18's from the 295/70R18's when I'm able. But that still isn't stock (I think like 1" diameter over stock). So may not net much in the end....

Yep, there’s definitely lots of different ways to skin this cat. Tires, gears, A/R adjustment, turbo size....

Main thing is to understand where you’re currently at and what your goals are, because everyone is different.
Obviously akcooper9 likes his tire size and it was a non-negotiable item. Gearing it is for him.
I’m happy with my 32” (barely oversized) tires and like to run lower rpm. Turbo size adjustment for me.
Eswift..... well he just throws everything at it!

And there is no way I can work as fast as Eswift. This old man is far too tired to do the all-nighters after work anymore.

I went with 4.30s because of a couple of reasons:

1) Go big or go home 4.10s wasnt a big enough jump for the cost IMHO and 4.30s really only added an extra 100 RPMs at a given speed vs 4.10s. This is where playing with the numbers and putting pen to paper helps visualize the impact of each ratio.
2) Changing tires wasnt an option as my wife loves the look and nothing smaller would put the RPMs where I wanted them
3) 4.10 and 35s would have put me right back to a stock size tire and 3.73s with RPMs at 1900 at 65MPH. I wanted more RPMs

The way the truck is now, I'm right between a stock tire 4.10 truck and stock tire 3.73 truck. I have 500 daily driving break in miles and 200 towing miles on the gears. All I can say is they are great. While the SXE fixed all my EGT issues and kept them under 1250 pulling heavy with fuel, I did not like having to run 70 plus to get the RPMs over 1900 in OD towing. The 4.30s put me at 2000 RPMs at 65.

Couple observations from today's trip home. EGTs are 150 to 200 degrees lower. MPG is up from 9 to 10.5 and clutch ran hardly runs anymore. On the flats, EGTs run 900. Pulling any sort of incline EGTs typically hit a wall at 1075.

Similar setup to a few other members minus a couple inches of tires. Do you see any reason or feel the need to drop down turbine AR size or move to a smaller turbine?

If I only daily drove the truck I could 'maybe' see some folks desire to want more spool up at 1500 RPMS

BUT

with a 12K fifth wheel hold me back and PHP's 80 HP tow tune, I have no problem making 5 pounds of boost at 1600 at which point boost is fully connected to the skinny peddle. I'm not changing anything.... 364.5/74/.91 for the win!

Indications the engine doesn’t have to ‘work as hard’ to get the job done.

Good work getting where you wanted to be.

I think if I had to do it over again, I'd have found a 4.30 rear and the swapped the D60 to 4.30. I like the 275/75-18's

Hmm, would you like to buy my 4.30 Trutrac Sterling if I decide to go D80?
