New member. My first vehicle was a 1988 F-250 with a tired 460. I paid $1,000 for it that I had saved from my summer job. It got about 7mpg and that was back when gas was $5 per gallon so I pretty much broke-even driving to and from my new minimum-wage job flipping burgers at Dairy Queen. The big gas tank had been removed before I bought it so it only had like a 7 or 10 gallon tank. The gas guage never worked either, and one day I ran out of gas on my way to work. Luckily my football coach recognized me walking into town with my (empty) emergency gas can and he gave me a lift. It didn’t take too long before I was sick of the low mpg/ high-likelihood-of-running-out-of-gas drama. I tried to sell it by parking it at our local park-and-ride with a For Sale sign in the window. It got vandalized. Actually the dullards tried to steal it by smashing the ignition switch with a hammer. When they couldn’t start it they decided to destroy the u-joint and drop the driveshaft so they could tow it. They must have given up bc that’s how I found it the next day. Tough break for a 16 year old. There was probably a lesson to be learned. If you can figure it out please let me know.

I’ve had a few more Fords since then.
