Been noticing for a couple of days when starting engine that battery seemed a little lower than usual.Noticed amp gauge jumps a little when using lights. When i got home from work today tried to start engine and would barely turn over. Also noticed when i started engine this morn that digital clock was at all zero's.Battery is a couple of years old and had brushes put in alternator about a year ago.I put battery charger on battery and indicator on charger was saying battery was hot. What gives?Truck is 1992 F-150 w/302...Thanks...David
I would check the battery with a hydrometer and a load tester. Make sure that the cell levels are up that the battery will push normal levels constantly while under load.
It probably would not hurt to check the alt output. It should push about 14.5 volts when running. It is possible that because of it's age, it could be on its way out. The internal bearings inside the alt could be worn and have slop. This can reduce the alt output and eventually bring it to the point of replacement.
Lastly, check all battery cable connections and also alt connections.
Good luck. Jake.
