I wanted to read the owners manual, but for some reason did not have one, so they order one for me, I had service install a hitch, because this truck did not had a hitch either, I told them you better have a hitch if you want me to buy the truck, so they did. Now after reading some info on this board, I asked one of the service writers what tranny fluid to put on the truck if I was to drain that is one right now, he said Mercon V, I thought that this was not to be put on these tranny when I read the FAQ. I know you told me Mobile 1 ATF Synth. I was looking today at the rear end of this truck, it is huge. Looking at the tires I have, they are Pirreli tires all season. Thanks for the info:
I would say that Mercon V is not the fluid of choice for the 4R100 transmission in your truck. That fellow who made that statement is mistaken. You need a Mercon rated ATF, and Mobil 1 meets that specification. Thats what I have been using in my trucks.
From: I'm lost somewhere in NJ -- can someone please find me?!?!?!?
Ford specifically indicates NOT to use a dual rated Mercon tranny fluid, including Mercon V. However, there have been many debates here where people indicated their Ford stealership's service center actually used Mercon V on theirs. As for me, I stick to the instruction manual because I don't want any warantee issues. I also use Mobi1 ATF because it's the tried & true, won't let you down, no one can say anything bad about it tranny juice of choice. Your mileage may vary.
