seat material upgrade
Here's the long version. If you want to skip straight to the point of this post, go to the end...I've got a 2010 Ford Expedition EL 4x4. Its an XLT, so it has cloth seats. They are the light tan that seem to stain and get dirty if you just look at them. I am always nervous when we need to take the expedition over my wife's minivan for something because I know the kids are going to spill something or step on the seats and stain them. I have talked about getting seat covers, but haven't been able to convince my wife. We've been toying with the idea of finding and excursion because despite the fact that the expedition has one of the highest towing capacities of all the big SUVs, it has a terrible time towing our fairly light (5000 lbs dry) travel trailer. I don't tow a lot, so I've also thought I should just keep the expedition because for normal every day driving, it is fine. I am trying to figure out what I can do to it if I keep it. One idea is upgrading the material on the seat.
I talked to a local upholstery shop and they said to buy the OEM leather kit and install, I'm looking at $3k. Thats a lot for some seat fabric. I have seen people selling the seats out vehicles before. Would it be hard to find leather seats from an expedition? Is that likely to be cheaper than recovering my seats? Should I just buy neoprene seat covers? What do you guys recommend?
On a side note, anything else you can recommend I do? I have thought of sumo springs, aftermarket stereo, and maybe a remote start so I can get it cool in the hot summers here in southern Utah. Those options seem to be ones that would add some nice creature comfort for not too much money.
