Hey Everyone. New guy here. I'm about to pop for his 71. I have a question about bed repair at the end by the tailgate.
I see I can get a panel from LMC etc., but I do not see any for the very end where the ribs roll down.
Have any of you dealt with this and how did you handle it? Thanks for any advice.
sxgriff at all costs avoid LMC. their bed repair panels are cheap china junk. i used them to "repair" the bed floor in my 67 f-100. you will be better off to go to your local junkyard and have them cut out the floor. even if you have to drive a long way to the junkyard . you will be money and time ahead. not to mention you will not be pissed off due to the extreme lack of quality. i mean they are metal and all, but they are just a huge waste of time. imo.
Thanks lilorbie. This guy backed out on selling so I'm still on the hunt for one. I appreciate your response because it lets me know what I would have to do when I finally get one.
They are terribly hard to find near me without driving 3-4 hrs away just to see one that is not as good as the seller says.
IT is a shame no one makes the panels needed for these great old trucks.
Thanks again
Try tabco.Com that is who I got my body patch panels from for my 81 F100.
Was vary happy with all of them rockers, cab corners, rear door posts, floors and inner & outer lower left door parts.

sxgriff no problemo. i know that some will say that this is a waste of time on how to find a old truck. but years ago i found a 56 Ford f-100 in my local paper. to bad it was not a big window. i would try craigslist in the area,s near you and also if you have a state paper. look in the sunday antique section. i have seen 67/72,s for sale that way. if i had more money and shop space i would have more projects. might be a good thing that i am lacking in both depts. good luck with your search.
Thanks guys. I appreciate your advice on Tabco. They're stuff does look better. I guess the end of the bed where the ribs roll down just is not reproduced. So, it's either the junk yard or have a sheet metal shop replicate.
I been looking for one of these trucks for months, craigslist etc. I've 2 including the one in the pic the owner wither sold or backed out after we pretty much settled on price. Just dumb luck for me I guess.
The search continues. I love these things and want to do the CV swap and all. I have the ability and equipment to do it, just need the truck!
I used panels I was able to cut out of a bed, that was damaged on the bedsides, but had a solid floor.
I also lucked out and found a bed where the sides were upgephuched but the floor and wells were almost perfect. For Free mind you.
This can take some time but I watched Cl for several months and came across a guy parting out his wreck.
There are a little over 20,000,000, or maybe fewer, (LOL) spot welds to drill out *per* bed.
As nice as your truck looks you might consider a custom wood bed similar to the older Ford trucks.
I'll be doing an Oak and SS floor and wells on my GF's 1970.
When I get to it I'll try to remember to document and photograph the project. (Don't anyone hold their breathe...)
Thanks for the info. The sad thing is, I posted this thread before I bought the truck and the guy backed out that evening. Sorry to mis-lead anyone because I will find one and all this info will be helpful.
I thought seriously about making a wooden bed as I'm a pretty seasoned woodworker myself. Would be a fun project I think.
I'd like to see your plan if you have it. I guess the SS is for the strips?

That it is. Rusty steel hold-downs just look bad. Paint only works until it gets old or scratched.
